The U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences funds NCRECE. The mission of IES is to provide rigorous evidence on which to ground education practice and policy.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is dedicated to improving the well-being of all young children, with particular focus on the quality of educational and developmental services for all children from birth through age 8.

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) works to make a difference in the quality of teaching and teacher preparation today, tomorrow, and for the next century.

The National Head Start Association (NHSA) provides support for the entire Head Start community by advocating for policies that strengthen services to Head Start children and their families; by providing extensive training and professional development to Head Start staff; and by developing and disseminating research, information, and resources that enrich Head Start program delivery.

The National Governor’s Association, (NGA) Center for Best Practices on Early Education supports the work of governors and their policy advisors to promote school readiness and support those leading efforts to build a comprehensive system of services for children ages birth to five.

The National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) aims to produce and communicate the knowledge base required to ensure that every American child can receive a good education at ages three and four. The Institute seeks to provide policy makers with timely information addressing the practical problems they face and offers independent research-based advice and technical assistance to policy makers, journalists, researchers, and educators.

The State Early Childhood Policy Technical Assistance Network (SECPTAN) helps state decision makers meet the challenges of effective policy development through consultation, publications, presentations, workshops and conferences, on-line support, and other resources

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions. CCSSO provides leadership, advocacy, and technical assistance on major educational issues.

The National Association of Early Childhood Specialists in State Departments of Education (NAECS/SDE) promotes high-quality services to young children and their families through improvement of instruction, curriculum, and administration of programs.

The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) at UVa focuses on the quality of teaching and students’ learning. CASTL’s aim is to improve educational outcomes through the empirical study of teaching, teacher quality, and classroom experience from preschool through high school, with particular emphasis on the challenges posed by poverty, social or cultural isolation, or lack of community resources. NCRECE is based at CASTL.
